5 Ways to Lose your Fear of Learning English Online and Independently
Learning English online through autonomous learning can be a challenging journey, but a rewarding one. However, there are several barriers that can make this process more difficult for Latin American adult learners. Overcoming these barriers require dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to step outside of one’s comfort zone.
By identifying and addressing these obstacles head-on, Latin American learners can develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed in today’s globalized world.
1. And if I don’t learn anything.
One of the main barriers that many people face when learning English online independently is the fear of failure. It is important to remember that learning is a process and you cannot expect to be an expert overnight. To overcome this fear, it is advisable to set realistic and measurable goals and celebrate the small achievements along the way. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. There are plenty of resources online and social media groups that can help you overcome any obstacles along the way.
Another common obstacle to learning English online independently is the lack of motivation. Without a teacher or tutor to monitor your progress, it’s easy to lose interest and motivation. To overcome this obstacle, it is advisable to find a compelling reason to learn English. Do you want to advance your career? Travel abroad? Read books and articles in English? Identify a personal reason for learning and keep that goal in mind as you progress through your learning. Also, don’t forget that learning English is a constant process and that every little action you take, brings you closer to your ultimate goal.
3. I’m not good at learning by myself.
Some people may be afraid to learn English online because they think they don’t have the skills to do it. However, it is important to remember that autonomous learning means that you can personalize your learning experience and progress at your own pace. In addition, there is a wide variety of resources available online, from full courses to videos and podcasts, that are designed to accommodate different skill levels. Even if you feel a bit intimidated at first, with time and practice your confidence and ability in English will improve.
4. It’s just that technology doesn’t go with me
Another common barrier to learning English online is technical difficulties. These may include problems with your Internet connection, hardware or software, which may affect your ability to access learning materials and participate in online activities. It’s important to make sure you have a stable internet connection and a working computer before you start learning online.
